Sock / Fingering Weight Yarn

0
0
Category 1 on the Craft Yarn Council chart, fingering weight yarn knits at 7 to 9 stitches per inch, usually on size US 1 to 3 needles.

Versatile, stylish, and always colorful, fingering weight yarns — particularly those designed for sock knitting — are BBF’s specialty. You’ll find a terrific variety of fingering weight yarns, from wool/nylon blends created with durable socks in mind to luxurious cashmere blends that cry out for shawls and scarves. Every skein is personally dyed by Carol from top-quality yarn bases. You’ll find semisolids as well as multicolors, from muted to magnificent, and every skein is one-of-a-kind.

Superwash Merino Classic
100% superwash merino with a nice tight twist. This base dyes beautifully and never disappoints, whether you’re creating socks, shawls, baby items or mittens. Combine two colorways for stranded knitting, or enjoy the crisp stitch definition of your favorite hues. Each skein is approximately 400 yards.

Plump
A similar tight twist and string-of-pearls texture as Superwash Merino Classic, but a blend of 80% superwash merino and 20% nylon, for extra durability. Supersoft, great stitch definition, a pleasure to knit with. Each skein is approximately 400 yards.

BFL Sock
Meet the Blue-Faced Leicester sheep, a breed with soft, lustrous and absolutely drool-worthy wool. Similar in feel and softness to merino—no worries about scratchiness with this base yarn! Good stitch definition, and a nice twist to boot. Each skein is approximately 400 yards; Jumbo skeins contain 650 yards.

CashSock
The softness of merino wool, the durability of nylon and the luxurious feel of cashmere — this yarn has it all. A matte texture, you’ll love the feel of this yarn against your face, hands or feet. Great for heirloom baby items, too! Each skein is approximately 430 yards/100g.

BFL Luxe
70% Blue-faced Leicester wool, 10% cashmere and 20% silk: what’s not to like about this terrific yarn? Not only dreamy-soft, but has wonderful drape and complexity of color due to the fiber content. Each skein is approximately 400 yards/100g.

Merino Tencel Blend
Half merino wool, half Tencel© (a fiber derived from wood), this yarn has shine, a great hand, and complexity of color.  Occasionally this base yarn is available using Falkland or BFL wool instead of merino.  Each skein approximately 400 yards/100g.

SoftSilk Sock
A blend of 50% merino wool and 50% silk, you’ll want to use this lush yarn for everything from shawls to cowls to baby items to, yes, socks! Occasionally this base yarn is available using Falkland  or BFL wool instead of merino but the hand and construction are similar. Approximately 430 yards per skein.

Bamberino
80% merino wool is blended with 20% bamboo fiber (rayon) to create a gorgeous blend, with shine and strength! A great choice when you’re looking for drape, luster or a somewhat cooler fiber blend than all-wool. Each skein is approximately 430 yards/100g. Also is occasionally available in a BFL or Falkland version, instead of merino, but with similar construction and hand.

Luna, Apollo and Stella
For the magpie in all of us:  sock yarns with a little sparkle. Luna and Apollo base yarns mix 5% metallic fiber (stellina) with 75% merino wool and 20% nylon. Luna has silver metallic accents, while Apollo has gold metallic accents. Stella adds silk to the mix, with a lovely blend of 63% merino wool, 20% silk, 15% nylon and 5% metallic silver fiber. No matter which you choose, you’ll love the way the subtle metallic shine plays off the yarn’s colors.

Sheep-Free Sock
Allergic or sensitive to wool? Sheep-Free Sock is a blend of cotton and acrylic fiber, handdyed in muted semisolid colors. The fiber content is 44% cotton, 43% acrylic and 13% nylon. Works well for baby items designed for warm weather, too!

Tight Twist Sock Yarn
An old-school sock yarn similar to Regia and other German yarns, this blend of 75% wool and 25% polyamide is beloved by diehard sock knitters for its strength and durability. Each skein is approximately 450 yards. Also available in a blend with silk, called Twist o’ Silk.

Marl Sock
A fascinating merino wool yarn with a marled effect. One ply is superwash merino; the other two plies are non-superwash merino. The plies take the colors differently, creating the tweedy effect. Each skein is 400 yards/100g.

Sock Flats
Sock flats are a clever way to achieve self-striping and shading effects with yarn. They are also terrific for those who prefer to knit their socks two-at-a-time. Mills create double-stranded flat rectangles of sock yarn, which are dyed in this flat form. The knitter can either keep the flat in knit format and unravel while knitting, or ravel the flat winding each strand into its own ball. Flats are also fun to use for striping and shading accessories, like socks.
